Healthy Active Learning

Improving the wellbeing of tamariki and young people through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity.

Healthy Active Learning is a joint government initiative between Sport New Zealand and the Ministries of Health and Education designed to improve the wellbeing of tamariki and young people through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity.

Our Healthy Active Learning team here at Sport Manawatū currently work in 30 High Equity Index (EQI) schools throughout the Horowhenua, Tararua, Manawatū and Palmerston North City districts.

The outcomes we aim to impact are:

  1. Schools and kura value and prioritize quality play, active recreation, sport, physical education, and nutrition.
  2. Schools and kura value Mātauranga Māori and promote culturally distinctive approaches to play, active recreation, sport, physical education, and nutrition.
  3. Teachers and kaiako implement active teaching and learning approaches and deliver quality physical education.
  4. Schools and kura work effectively with whānau and their local community to enable inclusive and equitable access to quality play, active recreation and sport, and healthy food and drink.
